WHAT MAKES PAGE / HCD DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER DRUM?

They are totally resonant, which is accomplished by having nothing bolted through and attached to the shells. Also, the pitch of the drum can be changed lower or higher by the turn of a single key. No more turning every key to tune the drum or adjust the tone. One turn perfectly tunes the top and bottom head.

SO BY “TOTALLY RESONANT”, NO HARDWARE OR LUGS ARE ATTACHED WITH SCREWS OR BOLTS?

Exactly. Only the bass drum spurs, Floor tom legs and snare strainer/butt end is attached to the shell so there is nothing to inhibit the drums tonal quality.

By means of floating lugs, which are held together by steel cable.

SO IF THE DRUMS HAVE NO LUG HARDWARE DRILLED INTO THE SHELLS, HOW DO THE HEADS/HOOPS STAY ATTACHED?

HOW DO I CHANGE THE HEADS WITHOUT EVERYTHING FALLING OFF? IS THIS PROCESS EASY?

Quite. You simply loosen each tension rod that is connected to the lugs (not having to take them completely off), which creates slack in the cable. Remove the cable by lifting over a lug and just pop off the hoop and head. Note that the lugs are connected to the hoop by the tension rods so when the hoop/head comes off, the lugs stay connected to the hoop and do not fall off. Next, replace the head and place the hoop back on, run the cable around each lug and tighten the lugs. Once the head is evenly tightened, you can tune the drum with any the turn of any tension rod. The process may sound difficult but is quick and very easy. You have to remember, our concept is unique and different and as with anything new it simply takes doing it a couple of times and you will understand how easy it really is to change heads. Also, when loosening the lugs, if one comes off, no worries. Just go ahead and remove the cable, re-attach the lug and complete the above steps. Very simple. Also, we will soon have a DVD available which consists of artist's testimonials, performance, and instruction on changing heads, etc.

HAS THERE BEEN ANY PROBLEMS WITH YOUR DESIGN (LUGS, CABLES) BREAKING?

Yes. We have a wide variety of custom sizes, oil rubbed finishes and wraps available.

CAN I GET ANY SET MADE TO MY CUSTOM SPECIFICATIONS, SUCH AS SIZES, COLOR, ETC.?

We’ve never had any problems. Our steel cable that we use is very strong.

SO YOUR DRUMS TUNE THE TOP AND BOTTOM HEAD EVENLY WITH ONE TUNING KEY. WHAT IF I WANT THE HEADS TO BE TUNED DIFFERENTLY?

With the belief, and hence the design of PAGE / HCD, we do not offer drums with top and bottom heads that can be tuned differently. By getting a top and bottom head tuned exactly the same, you are able to achieve any pitch you desire while allowing the drums to produce at its most resonant level. PAGE / HCD does this with the slight turn of your drum key on ONE tension rod.

CAN I GET A PAGE / HCD SET AT ANY OF THE LARGER MUSIC RETAIL STORES SUCH AS GUITAR CENTER?

No. We are a boutique drum company. We build custom drums per order through us directly. Each drum is uniquely and individually your own.

WHAT ARE YOUR SHELLS MADE FROM?

Again, it's based on the request. Primarily, we use the finest American maple ply shells. Also available are birch ply shells and Stave shells.

WHAT TYPE OF MOUNTING HARDWARE DO YOU USE?

We use RIMS mounting systems. Normal bass drum spurs and legs for floor toms (unless something such as a suspension basket is requested).

HOW DO YOU COMPARE IN PRICE TO THE TOP DRUM COMPANIES?

Only the bass drum spurs, floor tom legs and snare throwoff/butt end. Nothing else is bolted into the shells. Feel free to inquire with any questions.

DO YOU OFFER THE PAGE / HCD DESIGN (CABLE, LUGS) SOLD SEPARATELY IF I WANT TO PUT IT ON MY OWN SHELLS.

No, due to quality control, we only offer offer PAGE / HCD as a complete drum (set).

I'VE SEEN OTHER COMPANIES WITH THIS CABLE DESIGN. WHAT MAKES PAGE DIFFERENT?

First and foremost, we are the original cable tension design. As with anything innovative, there will always be knockoff companies taking a design, giving it a very slight modification, getting a patent and claiming the design as their own. Don't be fooled. David Page had his first prototype in the early 1980's and debuted his product at the 1992 NAMM show in Anaheim CA (see our bio page). Page drums has been featured in major drum publications as far back as the early 90's. If you're looking for the ORIGINAL CABLE TENSION DRUMS, look no further than PAGE.

DO THESE MOUNTS BOLT INTO THE SHELL?

We are not a mass manufactured drum company. Keep in mind that we are building an innovative, custom set, made specifically for you. That said, we try and stay very competitive to all the custom drum brands, both major and boutique.

I always found tuning a huge hassle. Between sets I've always had to tune my drums. PAGE DRUMS and their PCTS system keeps my drums perfectly tuned, even through long gigs. They stay in tune and sound great!

I got my Page/HCD kit in May of 2011. Jeffrey, the owner of Hudson Custom Drums, did a great job with it. He’s very customer service oriented and helped me through the whole process of choosing the drum shell sizes, hardware and the wrap finish. He kept me informed the whole way as he built the kit and when it was completed he made sure I was 100% satisfied with the way the set turned out. And I’m very satisfied. It looks incredible and the sound is fantastic. I had what I thought was a pretty good sounding drum set before I bought my Page/HCD kit but the differences are very noticeable. I don’t like to dampen my drums to let the full tones of each drum come out. Having no hardware drilled directly into the shells allows for full resonance and you can hear the difference. Low end tunings make for great deep rich tones and the high end tunings get clear bright attacks. Not having to tune the drum by tightening or loosening each and every tension rod is so huge I can’t overstate it enough. It’s the most user friendly tuning drum set you’ll ever find. With the turn of one tension rod on each drum I tune both the top and bottom heads equally to get any tone I want out of the drum. Tuning, which I always hated to do because it took so long, I can now do in 30 seconds/drum. Page/HCD are top shelf and with the uniquely progressive hardware I don’t think there’s a better set of drums I could have bought.

David, I am a New Zealander and received your drum from San Diego upon recommendation from of my friend on the cruise ship Carnival Spirit. I just wanted to say that I have been quite blown away by the drum. At first I was a bit freaked, expecting something a little heavier, not so ringy. I did a recording and was a little non-committal.The breakthrough happened when I took it to a jazz gig. It was amazing, having a very organic sound that really blew me away. I then used it on a piano trio gig as well. Everywhere people were commenting. I have never had a snare that got so much feedback. I just used it on a recording here in New Zealand, specifically on a few songs that were darker country and it was fantastic. I am learning more about it all the time. It seems to have more cut than my brass snares!!

In short, I LOVE the drum and am an ambassador for PAGE DRUMS everywhere I go now.

I have known Jeffrey Hudson since our days of playing high-school football though I was more interested in playing drums in a high school rock band and made it a full-time career for a period in my life, touring all over the country. On a personal level he is simply an honest person who is passionate about providing a superb product with excellent customer service.

Now on to the fun stuff ! I first heard of Page Drums back in the mid-2000’s. I was intrigued, tuning both heads the same made sense, It’s the way I currently tuned my toms. What impressed me was the tom shells do not have any holes in them and the design was eye catching. Over the next 10 years Jeffrey and I spoke many times about them. I finally was able to get my kit in 2020. I have an 8-piece kit that is just amazing. Jeffrey worked with me for months on the design. The kit has a wood finish with a red wood stain and it’s beautiful! Sorry, I digress.

I have a home studio and this is by far the easiest kit I have ever dialed in for recording. On Jeffrey’s suggestion I went with Evans G2 coated batter heads and G1 clear for the reso heads, that was a perfect decision. Being that the bearing edges are done by hand and perfect, the resonation these drums have is exactly how it is supposed to be, LOUD! They sound amazing without any dampening. I run them wide open, they are punchy with a good bottom end. The attack on the toms and the kick is very good.

I am also part owner of a sound production company, I was thinking of using the kit for backline, but because I had the studio kit dialed in so perfectly, I didn’t want to move them, lol. So, a couple of years ago I called Jeff to start planning another kit, something smaller and easier to move around, once again He was very patient with me mainly because I had no idea what I wanted, hence the Perfect Storm kit was created, there is a good story behind the name.

The other thing I like about these drums, if you need to re-tune them, it takes about 5 minutes to tune the whole kit, that is a huge feature when you have multiple drummers playing the same kit at a festival.

I just love everything about these drums, that is the best way I can put it. I highly recommend them and will not ever play any other kit.

This Hudson Custom snare drum is a great choice for live and the studio. It stays tuned far better than other snares. It's the only snare I don't have to dampen in some way, so you get all the body plus top end while still hearing the snare wires which decay beautifully after each hit. This is my second one, and it came with a much improved Trick throw that adds more versatility, so I have options that are easy to adjust. Plus it looks damn cool!
